I have no interest in learning Spanish. Why would I read this blog?
Well, I’m hoping this blog will be about more than learning Spanish. I’d like to share other things I’m just now learning about in my advancing years, such as fascinating/quirky words, the differences and similarities of various cultures, my favorite books and movies, the tribulations of aging, and basically anything else that strikes my fancy. So if you have ever used words, met someone from a different culture, read a book or seen a movie, or simply experienced the frustrations of getting older, you may find something worth your time. Then again, maybe not.

Hablo español. ¿Por qué debo leer este blog?
Debido a que en este blog, descubrirás cómo una gringa envejeciendo
ver la lengua y la cultura del mundo hispano. Y debido a que escribir en español muy mal y necesito tus comentarios y tu ayuda. Cuando tengas un momentito, ¿podrías ser tan amable de corregir mis equivocaciones?

You don’t translate posts word for word. Why not?
I’m not a translator. I write fairly well in English and rather poorly in Spanish. Besides, if you are lucky enough to be bilingual in English and Spanish, would you really want to read the same post twice?

¿Por qué no traduces palabra por palabra los mensajes?
No soy traductora. Además, si hablas inglés y español, que sería aburrido de leer una entrada dos veces.

Do you use a web translator when you write in Spanish?
Using a tool such as Google Translate strikes me as “cheating” and what’s more, I don’t think I’d learn much that way. I try to express in Spanish at least a few of the ideas in the English version, while minimizing how many words I have to look up. After I’ve written something, I may run it through Google Translate to see if it makes any sense at all.

¿Usas una herramienta de traducir para escribir en español?
Utilizar una herramienta de traducir me parece engañoso. Además, si la utilizara, no aprendería nada. Trato comunicar las mismas ideas de la versión inglés sin buscando cada palabra en el diccionario. Después de escribir una entrada, quizás use Google Translate para asegurar que tiene sentido.
